A letter to Shakira

‘I’m going to write a letter to Shakira’, I said with absolute certainty. ‘You are going to do what?’ replied my husband, who then took a sip of espresso and continued with an intrigued face, ‘Why? What are you going to say?’ he asked. I didn’t answer. I had no…

Unwanted

Graphic novel - short story I’ve always wanted to do a graphic novel and was given the chance earlier in November to collaborate with an illustrator to create a short story for a competition. Unfortunately, we didn’t win but that doesn’t matter, there will be plenty of opportunities to try again in the future. Therefore, I would like to share with everyone the outcome of this first attempt at a short graphic novel. Any feedback is welcome, positive or negative, please leave your comments in the section below.

My digital life and the cat dilemma

I cannot believe it is already December, this year has gone by in the blink of an eye. Since the pandemic struck worldwide and lockdowns came and went, my brain has lost track of time passing, my perception of time froze in April 2020 and now all of a sudden…

Design system myths — 1. Source of truth

Concept vs Reality ‘The Design system is the source of truth’ Oh really? Is it the Sun? Are you God? What is this, a new religion? Does this mean that it is all set in stone? What? I don’t like rules, they mess with my creative flow! I cannot compete…

“Sometimes the best advice is no advice at all”

‘You are doing a great job with your baby, she is a very happy child’ someone told me. ‘Really? Thank you, I’m trying my best,’ I proudly replied, containing tears of joy and confusion due to the unexpected compliment which had totally made my day. Think you have been criticised…

Reflection on Gender Equality

The shaping of an attitude — I recently took part, as a panel member, in an online webinar on Ada Lovelace Day to celebrate the achievements of women in science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM). The event was organised by a local college and I was invited to participate with other colleagues from work. The…

The imprisonment of adulthood

A reflection on mental health — “All grown-ups were once children… but only a few of them remember it.” — Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The little prince. When I was a kid, my two worst fears were the wardrobe monster and the hairy lady that cries out at night, what they call in Panama ‘la llorona’. During…
